Corvo Rei – Introduction and Storyboards
Corvo Rei was an animated music video project I developed for the song Corvo Rei from the Brazilian band Tres Doses. I used the band’s visual identity (also developed by myself) as a core element for the Art Direction. As aggressiveness is one of the main fundamentals of the identity, I decided to go with a lower frame rate. I found that 12 frames resulted in a more aggressive look and flow to the piece. Also no motion blur helped to sell that concept.
Once with the base fundamentals set in mind, I developed and wrote the script in partnership with the band’s front-man. This was done order to achieve best representation of what the song meant to him.
A brief synopsis:
The main character is a frustrated executive stuck in the repeating cycle of his routine. The story starts when his natural instincts suddenly begin to arise in the form of bizarre visions which gets worse and worse as the days go by. The story lasts for 5 days and each day represents one of the 5 stages of loss: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance which are represented by the main character’s behaviour.
With that, I directed the shots framings and compositions in the storyboards phase.

Corvo Rei – Concept Art and Modeling
These were the first steps of visual development of what the project should look like in the end. Besides utilizing the band’s visual identity, I also used Disney‘s Paperman as a reference.

Corvo Rei – Layout Animation
First pass of animating the music video. Here I also built all the environments utilised in the project.
